We, the IUC community, were devastated by the news of the recent earthquake in Chile, since one of our first academic partners is the University of Concepción, the town that was epicenter of the earthquake. Moreover, Daniel Peñailillo, Professor at the University of Concepción, who taught Legal Institutions of Capitalism at our college in the inaugural year (2008), still holds a place in the IUC students’ affection and admiration.

By Statute, the IUC has as a main point in its mission the promotion of “sister” scientific institutions to spread an interdisciplinary approach to a socially responsible and authentically global culture. Therefore, we believe it is our cultural and moral duty in this tragic moment to endorse an initiative of help and support to the University of Concepción, so badly damaged by the earthquake.

Thus, as IUC we strongly want to encourage a collective campaign to collect funds for the University of Concepción. These funds will be used to award scholarships to Chilean students and facilitate a speedy return to normal academic activities.
