48 hours - 4 credits

Krista Nadakavukaren Schefer

This course is designed to give students an overview of the legal regime underlying the multilateral trading system. The lectures begin with an examination of the institutional framework of the World Trade Organization (WTO), including its governance and administrative rules and the rules on membership. This is followed with an in-depth study of the basic legal principles found in the agreements governing trade in goods, services, and intellectual property rights. A short overview of the agreements governing specific aspects of goods trade follows. The course concludes with a discussion of how the international trading system’s law interacts with other international public law.
