Student Life

Turin's cosmopolitan present and historic past combine to form one of the most exciting and alluring Italian cities. Turin is renowned for its architectural beauty and rich cultural life, aspects which received international acclaim during the city's hosting of the 2006 Winter Olympics.

A Major Intellectual Capital

The presence of 2 major Universities (the University of Torino with whom the IUC is a partner and the Politechnic University) as well as dozens of smaller programs attracts the 80,000 university students, local as well as from all over Europe, making Turin one of Italy's major intellectual capitals.  Turin is also the base of several international organization such as the UN Interregional Crime and Justice Unit (UNICRI), the Training Center of the International Labor Organization (ITC-ILO) and the European Training Foundation (ETF), just to name a few.

Turin offers university students a variety of services, from student sport associations to an invaluable network of local and university libraries. In 2006, the city was designated by UNESCO World Book Capital. Student life is further enriched by the many dynamic public spaces and cultural venues characteristic of Turin.

Culture

Tradition and innovation come together memorable cultural experiences. Turin's distinctive artistic richness is best seen in opera (Teatro Regio), theater (Teatro Stabile),in a unique way to offer cinema (Cinema Massimo, Museo del Cinema) classical, modern and jazz music (Auditorium del Lingotto, Musica 90, Folk Club).  Venues such as Castello di Rivoli, Galleria d'Arte Moderna, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo exhibit the best of European artwork, transforming the city into a European capital of contemporary art.  Turin is also the home of Carlo Petrini’s Slow Food movement and market and eatery ‘Eataly’.

Nightlife

Turin's nightlife is extremely rich and diverse. It starts every evening with one of the most enjoyable Italian food rituals, the "aperitivo" (which was originally invented in Turin). The vibrant atmosphere of friends gathering can be experienced in the many bars and public spaces located within one of the most ancient parts of town (Quadrilatero Romano, Borgo Dora). The nightlife often continues until sunrise in "Murazzi," by the shores of the river Po, another distinctive location of Turin's nightlife.
