Guido Calabresi

Guido Calabresi is an IUC Faculty Member and served as an United States Circuit Judge for the Second Circuit.

He was appointed United States Circuit Judge in 1994. Prior to his appointment, he was Dean and Sterling Professor at the Yale Law School where he began teaching in 1959. He continues to serve in Yale as Sterling Professor Emeritus and Professorial Lecturer. He received his BS degree, summa cum laude, from Yale College, a BA with First Class Honors from Magdalen College (Oxford), an LLB, magna cum laude, from Yale Law School, and an MA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University. A Rhodes Scholar and member of Phi Beta Kappa and Order of the Coif, Judge Calabresi served as the Note Editor of the Yale Law Journal, 1957-58, while graduating first in his law school class.


Judge Calabresi has been awarded some 40 honorary degrees from universities worldwide, and is the author of 4 books and over 100 articles on law and related subjects. He is a member of the Connecticut Bar.
