Criteria for Upgrade to the MSc

 

Preference is given to proposals that involve an IUC partner institution, place emphasis on an IUC research area (Commons, Migration, Human Rights or Global South), and/or take the student back to their home country to benefit the local community.

Criteria for Upgrade to the Masters:

The student’s proposed project aligns with the mission and objectives of the IUC and/or the research areas of the Institute for the Study of Political Economy & Law.  For more information on the mission, objectives, and current research areas see the website.
 

  • Excellent academic performance in the first year.
  • Community involvement in the IUC (successful completion of community and library requirement and involvement in IUCSA)
  • Attendance record, especially attendance of the Seminar/ Lecture Series
  • Award of scholarships from other institutions or a sufficient demonstration of successful completion of scholarship applications
  • Academic background, work experience, awards, and other unique qualifications
  • Successful engagement of the approved proposed second year plan:
  • Official acceptance to the organizations/institutions specified .

Process & Deadlines

Upgrade Proposals are due January 16th. Those approved for upgrade then are encouraged to make their plans a reality and to submit official acceptances to organizations and institutions specified as well as to make a request  for a Student Research Fellowships to cover the costs of their plan.

Deadlines for submission of official acceptance documentation and financial aid requests is June 15th.  Some exceptions can be made where documentation cannot be provided but there is a high likelihood that the student will be accepted to the program.  This decision is made at the discretion of the Academic Steering Committee.
